Sundale started with a simple idea:

Where you stay should be part of what you remember about a journey.

We love New Zealand, mountains, lakes, coastlines, small towns, open spaces, and the freedom of travelling through them. We also believe that experiencing those doesn't have to mean expensive hotels or luxury accommodation.

Sometimes, the stays we remember the most are much simpler yet unique.

A classic Kiwi caravan with a story behind it.A little cabin surrounded by nature.A tent that feels a little unexpected.A campervan parked by the ocean.Or just a patch of grass beneath a wide New Zealand sky.

That is the idea behind Sundale Holidays.

We want to create places to stay that are comfortable, affordable yet full of character and experience. Some are nostalgic, some are modern, and some are a little unexpected. But they all share one idea:

The accommodation itself should be part of the journey.

We don't want every Sundale to look the same.

In Wānaka, it's about the mountains, the lake and the feeling of having space to slow down beneath the Southern Alps.

In Kaikōura, it is waking up by the Pacific, discovering whales and seals and coming back to a stay that might be an old Kiwi caravan, an Eco Pod or something a little more unusual.

In Oamaru, it is falling asleep to the sound of the ocean, wandering Victorian streets, meeting little blue penguins and enjoying a touch of old New Zealand charm.

Each place has its own landscape, history and character.

Our job is not to change it, but to let the accommodation become a natural part of it.

Sundale is a young team working in one of New Zealand's most traditional tourism businesses, the Holiday Park.

We like that contrast.

We respect the simple, welcoming and free-spirited Kiwi tradition of the classic Holiday Park. At the same time, we're bringing our own values and ideas to it.

Being closer to nature, travelling more freely, living more sustainably, keeping things affordable, and having a little more fun along the way.

So at Sundale you might find a decades old caravan sitting next to an Eco Pod, a distinctive tent or something completely new we've built from scratch.

We're not trying to turn a Holiday Park into a hotel.

Quite the opposite.

We want it to remain a place where you can dress casually, slow down, get closer to nature, and enjoy travelling without having to spend too much.

Maybe that is simply our generation's way of seeing the Holiday Park.

We don't believe a good stay needs to be complicated.

We believe travel can be lighter. Less complicated, more relaxed, more affordable, closer to nature, and richer in experience.

For us, keeping things simple means using what we already have where we can, giving old caravans another life, thinking carefully about what we build, and looking for smaller, more efficient and more sustainable ways to stay.

We try to work with the landscape rather than overwhelm it.

For us, sustainability is not only about new technology.

Sometimes, it is much simpler:

Use a little less. Waste a little less. Enjoy a little more of what is already around us.

The name Sundale means something to us.

We think of it as our Valley of Sunshine. Not simply because of the sun itself, but because sunshine represents warmth, optimism, freedom, and the uncomplicated happiness of being away.

That feeling might come from watching the sun rise over the Pacific.Sitting outside an old caravan with a morning coffee.Walking down towards a lake.Or simply watching the last light of the day disappear behind the mountains.

These are small moments.

But when the journey is over, they are often the moments we remember the most.

We hope Sundale can become part of those memories.
