National Transport and Toy Museum

The museum sits beside Wānaka Airport on the Luggate highway and fills four large buildings. There are more than 600 vehicles, 23 aircraft and over 100,000 toys, from vintage cars and fire engines to Barbie and Star Wars collections. Children get indoor and outdoor play areas, dollar rides and arcade games. It is open every day except Christmas Day and no booking is needed.

The museum is at 891 Wanaka-Luggate Highway beside Wānaka Airport, so it is a drive out of town rather than a walk from the park. It is open seven days from 8.30am to 5pm and closes only on Christmas Day, which makes it a reliable option early in the day.
